Washing Your Waders

I woke up this morning to another eight inches of snow and it is still snowing.

The water on the Weber is now at 700 cfs.  Usually the rivers provide nice fishing with clear water in the early spring and do not run high until later in the season.  I apologize for not having a fun fishing story for you but on a snowy day like today, washing my waders seemed the appropriate thing to do.

Your waders can be washed if dirty. Use powder laundry detergent. Some manufacturers state to wash them in the washing machine with cold water and a gentle cycle.

Other manufacturers state to wash them by hand in a tub. Check the care instructions provided with the waders.

Since the waders are waterproof you will need to wash both sides. In a washing machine run them one cycle right side out and then another cycle inside side out. Or, stop the wash in the middle of the cycle and turn them inside out. Make sure they are well rinsed of suds when you pull them out. You may have to run an extra rinse cycle. Either let the waders air dry or run them in the dryer without heat. Make sure both sides are well dry before storage.

Revivex

Revivex is a waterproofing agent that you can spray on your waders. This makes the waders so the water will bead up and run off them. I noticed with new waders the water would just run off them when I got out of the water. After the waders got older they would retain moisture on the outside. This is nice in the summer when you want to stay cool, but for the most part it’s nice when the water runs right off and the waders dry immediately. After washing and drying your waders, spray them with Revivex or other water proofing agent. This will add that extra waterproofing to make them seem like new again.

  1. Yep! You might as well wash your waders if it's too snowy to fish. I hope the fishing will be good in a couple of weeks.
